RE: ordinance against rv's

Way back when we looked at a house in a subdivision that went one step up on that. Along with no trailers there could be no trucks with commercial plates. What do do you if all you have is a pickup. DON'T buy the house. I now live on a dead end street and can have my camper, boat, utility trailer in my yard any where I would like to put them. Even reading before you sign will not help you in the future if you wanted an RV. As long as the vehicle is legally registered you should have the option to put it in your driveway. If you are parking it in the road that's a different story.

RE: What is killing my battery

I would take the battery and get it tested. You could put a AMP meter in series with the + lead going to the battery and see what the current draw is.

RE: Dutchemn Lite - Opinions on them

Go with floor plan #2. On the first one it looks like the bathroom can not be used if the slide is in. That would be problem on a road trip. Before I bought my TT I looked at a Zeplin, we loved the layout, but it had the slide that blocked the bathroom door.

Just arived home from the Balloon fest

We just arrived home from a wonderful weekend of friends family and hot air balloons. It is a weekend of dry camping with about 125 other RV. in an open field about 1 mile from the Glens Falls airport in at foot of the great Adirondack mountains. We could not of asked for better weather or better company. The field over looks the runways so you get a great view of the balloons lifting off. If you choose you can take the trolley down get right in the middle of the action. We even had a few balloons take off in the RV field. It is one of the best camping experiences you could have. Another thing is it's nice to see so many families in one area with the same interest. The total balloon count was about 90 or so. If any one is interested we would love have you come and enjoy a weekend of camping balloons and family activities.

RE: Can I add an outside shower to my TT?

Depending on how the plumbing is run It might be set up for it. I have an Aerolite and the lines for the outside shower are there and have a plug in them. All I would need to do is get the shower unit and cut the hole in the wall. Go to the dealer and see where similar model units have there outside shower. The go home and check the plumbing in yours you might be surprised.

RE: Panic the Slide is stuck out!!

Well I finally got some time this afternoon to look into the slide issue because it finally stopped raining. When I got under the slide I noticed that the roller support closest to the slide unit was not even touching the slide. That would add resistance to the unit thus braking the pin. Getting it apart was chore. After all how hard could it be to line up the broken pin and use a drift punch and tap it out. Let's just say It's not going to come out that way. After looking things over I decided the motor and shaft had to come out, but how? After about an 1.5 hrs. of trying different thing I found the trick. Remove the plastic spacer on one end of the shaft and slide the shaft off the gear pin. Then the motor came off with two bolts (both were loose and one missing a spacer)leaving a six inch gear shaft that had the broken pin. I tapped it out pulled the gear out and headed for the work bench. No problem tapping the broken roll pin out now. The pin looked like it was made of aluminum. Well I looked through my stuff and found a few roll pins (right diameter, too long). Guess I will be going to the hardware store. Being Sunday night they have all ready closed.
It will easy to reassemble and none of the holes were out shape. If it happens again I will be a very simple fix. I will be getting a few extra pins. I will also be making some close measurements to make sure the slide is level and square to the body.

RE: power converter/inverter problems

Is it the input (12V) side or the 110v AC side? It depends on how much you spent on it. Most of the time I would say just replace it.

RE: Slide moving slowly??

On my slide there is a thermal switch that will trip when there is to much load on the motor (when the slide is all the way out or in) It acts like a limit switch. I suspect that the is the same with yours if it works after sitting a few. If the motor is running slow I would check the power wires to the slide controller and motor. If they are too small and the motor is working hard the current draw will go up and the voltage will go down. Low voltage at the motor will make it move slow, high current will trip the thermal protection device. I hope this helps.

RE: Panic the Slide is stuck out!!

Thanks for the info. I will take a closer look at it this weekend and post an update. The easy part will be getting the slide square with the body. I am also going to look at the support rollers they may have come loose and dropped down a bit causing the slide track to bind.

Panic the Slide is stuck out!!

Arrived home from the long labor day weekend at our property in the Adirondack mountains after a wonderful weekend with 35 close friends and family. Yes they were all in RV's (five TT's, one 5th wheel, one motorhome, one popup, two tents, one boat) all on our two acre lawn. Every thing was going fine until we got home and unpacked. I put the slide out so we would have more room, no problem right! When I tried to bring it in only one side was moving so I had to push it back out. It was hot we were hungry so I left it. Tonight with some help from a friend I discovered the problem. It looks lie a broken roll pin on the right side gear. At least it is 0.50$ pin and not the slide track or shaft. Has any one else had this happen? There is not much room to work under the slide so it might be a fun job to replace the pin. Oh well my time is cheaper than the dealers and I don't have to take it to them. Gee I almost forgot the slide is stuck out so I can't to it to them. I need to get it fixed the weekend because the Adirondack Balloon festival is coming up and I don't want to miss it.

RE: 1978 Trotwood: Pictures added! Come see.

Best of luck with the Trotwood. Growing up a 14 foot single axle 1964 (I think) Trotwood was our first camper. There was 4 of us in it. Table up front, couch that pulled out and a bunk above. It even had a propane light on the wall. Hering that name brings back memories.

RE: Favorite feature on your TT and why

That no matter where we go we are always home. Our TT is our home away from home no matter where it is parked. From a Wal-mart parking lot to a lake side site it always good to be in our own space.

RE: How much water carried when traveling

I depends where we are going. Up to out property in the Adirondacks I tow with a full tank about 55 gal. The water source, is a spring that feeds 4 houses is about 5 miles round trip from camp. We have electric and a septic to dump the tanks but no running water yet. We keep the tank topped off using 6 gal. water jugs and running to the spring. When on the road normally about a 1/4 tank for flushing and washing hands.

RE: Carrying spare wheels

I have one spare. It lives in the back of the truck while using our TT. When we get home I put it on the floor in the camper. If I need more than one spare We have a bigger problem and I will be using my AAA RV Plus.
